Rising Star: Jorja Smith
A talented queen.
I freaking love Jorja Smith. I’m so glad I discovered her music last summer because it’s honestly a blessing. Jorja, so far, has released an EP and a couple of singles. Many of her songs have been very successful which is promising for her as a rising star. Her music is mainly based in the R&B and Soul genre. She went on a sold out tour in the U.K. and many of her other concerts have sold out, as well.
Jorja is set to feature in the Black Panther album and her song “Blue Lights” was played by Drake on his OVO radio station. That song is so powerful in respect to the message and her voice. The song follows themes of racial profiling made by the police force. It reflects a protagonist struggling to follow a certain course of action when the police is nearby, even if the protagonist did nothing wrong, due to the color of their skin. “Run when you hear the sirens coming. Don’t you run when you hear the sirens coming”. You can feel the raw emotion in her voice in these final lyrics.
Jorja Smith’s music has a honey smooth, but powerful tone that you can’t help but fall in love with. I can’t wait for her to release a full length album and bless us all.
